McGill repeats shock treatment for GeeGees
McGill repeats shock treatment for GeeGees

The McGill Redbirds overcame the odds as they upended the Ottawa GeeGees to capture the Northern Conference Championship on Sunday.

The Redbirds, 7 and 9 on the regular season, surprised the number one ranked GeeGees in a lopsided 9-1 win in the opener of the best of three conference final. While Ottawa came back in 6-0 game two, McGill would not go quietly and completely the upset with a 5-1 decision in the clincher.

It was déja vu for the two clubs, as McGill pulled the same stunt last year. Ottawa was highly ranked all season but the Redbirds just ignored the reputation and went to work.

The Birds had a tough time at last year's national. Not only did they go winless, but they were robbed of their team equipment when someone stole their gear bags from the team bus.

As Northern Conference Champions, McGill will meet the two wildcard teams and the host during the round robin in Ottawa. That means a yet another rematch with the GeeGees, Saturday at noon.
