Super Saturday at the nationals
Super Saturday at the nationals Friday, October 20, 2006 by BillMartin The rain has stopped. The meetings have stopped. And, the teams are ready to take the field as the 2006 edition of the Canadian University Baseball Championship is set for the entire round robin to take place on Saturday.
Rain washed out day one, except for three innings between McGill and ABU. The Redbirds were leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth, but Atlantic Baptist had runners at second and third with one out when play was suspended. They will resume from that point at 10 am at Hamilton Yards in Nepean.
Meanwhile, all the other teams have agreed to play their three games on Saturday. Organizers will use three fields, the host Hamilton Yards at the Nepean Sportsplex, along with two adjacent fields at the Kinsmen complex in Kanata. Play resumes at 9 am in Kanata.
The organizers remain fearful of the weather forecast for Sunday. As a consequence, they have altered the playoff schedule. The semi finals will be played at 9 am with the Championship game set for noon at Hamilton Yards.
