Pollsters were all wet Wednesday, October 25, 2006 by BillMartin The tournament poll asked, "Who will win the 2006 championship?" While 1,611 cast ballots, most were well off the mark.
Atlantic Baptist University of Moncton drew 58% of the votes for a total of 929. One coach at the tournament noted that is a couple of hundered more than the school's entire student body.
University of New Brunswick attracted 13% of the vote followed by Dalhousie with eleven. McGill, which clearly won the championship with a perfect 5 and 0 record, garnered 7%, the same as Durham College from Oshawa, Ontario. The host University of Ottawa, the team that McGill beat to get to the tournament, polled just 6%.
There is nothing scientific about the poll and no realistic margin for error, give or take any per cent. It was just for fun and it provided something to talk about during the tournament's rain delays.
