Top pitcher and hitters named Wednesday, October 25, 2006 by BillMartin Pitcher of the Year honours went to Matthew Langton of the John Abbott Islanders of the Northern Conference. Langton pitched 32 and 2/3 innings, allowing just 2 earned runs while stricking out 46 and walking only 10 batters. He enjoyed an ERA of .416 and a record of 5 and 1.
Top Batter awards are presented in each conference. Dave Shorrock of the Queen’s Golden Gaels was the top slugger in the Ontario Conference. He hit for a total of 26 bases and an on base percentage of .500. Shorrock walked or was hit by a pitch just once and struck out 4 times. He scored 6 runs and drove in 6 RBI's with 17 hits and an average of .486.
Mike Tomasetta, McGill Redbirds, cleaned up in the Northern Conference with 23 total bases and an on base percentage of .559. He walked or was hit by a pitch 11 times and struck out 12 times. With a .450 average, he scored 5 runs while driving in 9 RBI's on his 18 hits.
Ryan Jacks of the Dalhousie Tigers in the Atlantic Conference was selected as the National Batting Champion. Jacks parlayed his .432 average into 26 total bases and 15 runs batted in. With 14 free passes, he had an on base percentage of .559. He had 19 hits struck out just 4 times and scored 16 runs. Ryan Jacks was elated to receive the National Top Hitter Award. A native of the Ottawa area, the Dalhousie slugger topped a stellar field in the 2006 race.
