UNB Captures Gold #2 Sunday, October 21, 2007 by BillMartin Peter Shaw led the UNB Cougars to their second national championship and he did it with one arm. Shaw opened the tournament with a no-hitter and repeated the feat with a 2-0 win over Concordia in the final.

Peter Shaw is hoisted high after he threw a no-hitter in the championship game to give UNB its second national title.
Shaw's team-mates rushed him after the final out, raising him to their shoulders while chanting "MVP, MVP." Tourney organizers were quick to agree naming Shaw the outstanding player of the tournament.
It was a tough road for UNB which entered the championship on a wildcard berth. However, they served notice early by downing their conference champion, ABU, in the opener. Their only loss came at the hands of Concordia. The Stingers surprised the Cougars 8-1 during the round robin.
Shaw's counterpart was no slouch today either. Julien Tucker tossed a two hitter in the losing cause and was awarded the game MVP honour for Concordia.

CIBA/ABIC President Kevin Bullock (right), presented the league championship trophy to the UNB Cougars following their 2-0 victory over the Concordia Stingers of the Northern Conference. |
